Tennessee Caps are premium natural stone products quarried from the renowned Crab Orchard region, known for producing some of the most beautiful and durable sandstone in North America. Each cap features a naturally weathered, slightly textured top surface that showcases the stone’s characteristic flaky appearance, creating visual interest and authentic character.

Unlike chiseled edge caps, Tennessee Caps maintain their natural split faces on all sides, preserving the stone’s organic appearance. Available in both Gray and Brown color options, these versatile caps come in various sizes to accommodate different hardscaping applications, from columns and pillars to wall caps and landscape features.

Coverage and Installation

Tennessee Caps are sold individually by size. When planning your project, ensure your supporting structure is sized appropriately, allowing for a 1-2 inch overhang on all sides for optimal visual appeal and water runoff.

For proper installation:

• Ensure a level, stable base structure
• Apply a quality masonry adhesive rated for natural stone in a continuous bead around the perimeter and in a grid pattern across the surface
• Position the cap carefully, checking for level placement
• Allow full cure time according to adhesive manufacturer recommendations
• For wall applications, maintain a slight slope (minimum 1/8″ per foot) for proper water drainage

Understanding Product Variations

As a natural stone product, Tennessee Caps exhibit distinctive variations in color, pattern, and texture. These variations are the hallmark of authentic stone and provide each piece with unique character. The Gray variety ranges from silver-blue to charcoal tones, sometimes with subtle rust accents. The Brown variety displays warm earth tones ranging from tan to deep rust with occasional mineral inclusions.

The surface texture will vary from piece to piece, with some having more pronounced flaking patterns than others. We recommend viewing and selecting your specific pieces in person for projects where appearance matching is important.
